For now, here's my review of Unbelievable:
There were so many things to love about Unbelievable, I don't even know where to start. Oh, wait... yes I do. With the characters!
Lilah, oh Lilah! I love this girl. Okay, yes, she originally shows up in town with some not-so-nice plans for some of my favorite characters of all time, but that has all been forgiven. Where Maggie was a bit of a damsel in distress character in book one, Lilah was basically her polar opposite. Don't get me wrong, Maggie is without a doubt my favorite fictional character ever, but there's nothing bad about a lil kick-ass in a heroine, either. This girl has a whole host of her own issues to deal with, but she's not afraid to meet them head on and to do what needs to be done to protect the people she cares about.
And Cole. I must admit. I had my doubts about him pulling off the role of hero based on the first book, but he definitely steps up and fills the big-boy shoes in this one. He's an entirely different kind of hero than either Seth or Booker, but he's ever bit as endearing. I love Opie!
And then there are the others. I think possibly my favorite thing about this book is that, though it revolves around Lilah and Cole's story, it doesn't leave anyone out. All our favorites from the first book are back and better than ever. Seth, Maggie and Booker all have big roles in the story that keep you thoroughly invested in each of them. I can't even explain how excited I am for Booker's story!
Now, onto the story. It was one that cost me hours of sleep because I just couldn't put it down. The perfect combination of heart-warming, gut-busting, head-scratching, adrenaline-inducing story telling. Cole and Lilah's relationship started out slowly... very slowly, and very believably for the characters involved, but the action and intrigue kept the pages flowing nicely. By the time everything started to fall into place, I was so invested that stopping wasn't even an option until I knew how everything would turn out.
The Port Fare series is not to be missed by anyone who enjoys contemporary romance.
