Tempting Rowan Blog Tour

I’m drowning in the numbness. It’s pulling me under and I can’t see the surface. It’s easier to pretend I can’t feel. And the longer you pretend, the easier it is to believe. But he wants to save me. Only he can’t. I have to save myself…and I don’t know if I want to.

Rowan Sinclair’s life has been anything but easy. With an alcoholic mother and a sleazy stepfather, it’s been her responsibility to raise her younger siblings. At twenty-one she’s chained to a life she doesn't want, but sees no other alternative. After all, what would happen to her brother and sister if she were to leave?

Trenton Wentworth sees the pain behind Rowan’s eyes. He wants nothing more than to make it disappear. To hold her. To love her. Except Rowan keeps everyone at a safe distance. But if there’s anyone that can break down the walls she’s built around herself, it’s Trent. So she avoids him at all costs. But Trent isn’t one to be easily evaded. He’s stubborn and determined. He’ll save this girl even if it costs him everything.

Love, lies, and deception.
That’s the name of the game when you’re Tempting Rowan.

REVIEW:
I had the pleasure of reading a copy of this book and I loved everything about it. Rowan is this girl in this crap situation, but she doesn't let it make her weak. In fact, she uses her circumstances to help build her strength and determination. Of course, everything she suffers through doesn't leave her undamaged. Rowan has mastered the art of shutting off her feelings, refusing to feel anything out of fear of feeling everything. She thinks she's incapable of love, but proves that wrong time and time again through her steadfast devotion to her little brother and sister. She loves them deeply and is determined to make their lives better than hers, and she is loved in return. I love a good romance more than pretty much anything, but the relationship between Rowan, Tristan, and Ivy stole the show for me in this book, warming my heart and bringing a smile to my face even in the worst moments.

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of romance to go around, as well. Steamy romance. On the floor of the library type romance. Yeah, I'll let you go with that where you will, but trust me it can't be better than the way Micalea wrote it. Sweet and sexy all at once, Trent stole my heart from page one. I couldn't get enough of his cocky, self-assured attitude, but it was those moments where he allowed Rowan a glimpse of his vulnerable side that truly won me over. He never pretended to be something he wasn't. He never played games with he, or hid his feelings. Trent loved Rowan. He'd loved her since they were kids and he made no attempt to hide that fact. A fact that scared the ever-loving crap out of poor Rowan, who feared she was too damaged to ever truly return his affections.

Another thing Rowan rarely allowed herself to do was cry. That's okay though because I cried enough for the both of us. I literally couldn't sleep after finishing his book because my nose was all stuffed up from crying.

There are twists and turns to this story that are hunted at and keep the pages turning, but you never really see coming until they slap you in the face. It's a rare thing for a book to genuinely surprise me, but Micalea accomplished that more than once. I can genuinely say that I loved absolutely everything about this story.

Oh, and if your a fan of Trace . . . be prepared for some uber sweetness on his part, as well. *swoon*

Alright, I'll stop fan-girling now and let you take a look for yourself with an excerpt generously supplied by Micalea. Enjoy!

 EXCERPT

“So,” I started, nervously fiddling with the buttons on my jacket, “what are you doing here? This isn’t exactly the most glamorous place.” I swirled my finger in the air for emphasis.

“I needed some ferret food,” he shrugged, pushing the cart forward and reaching up to push the brim of the baseball cap out of his eyes.

“Ferret food?” I questioned in disbelief.

“Yeah,” he shrugged. “I have a ferret and he has to eat.”

“Do they even sell ferret food here? And there’s a Pet-Smart right down the road, why wouldn’t you go there?”

“So many questions, Row,” he sighed, grabbing a container of orange juice and heading for the eggs. “Yes, they have ferret food here. I don’t go to Pet-Smart because if I did that, then I’d want to bring home every furry creature I saw while I was there.”

“You seriously have a ferret?” I continued to drill him.

“Yes, I seriously have a ferret. His name is Bartholomew and he’s really cute. You should come over and play with him sometime. He needs friends,” Trent grinned at me. “How are these?” He held up a carton of eggs.

“Those are great,” I answered his question. “You know, I could see you with a snake or a lizard, but not a ferret.”

Trent shuddered. “Don’t tell anyone, because it’ll ruin my street cred, but I hate reptiles. I’m not saying I’m going to go out and kill a snake because I hate them, I’m all for saving any little creature, I just don’t want one living in my house.”

I cracked a smile at that. “You’re an interesting guy, Trenton.”

He gazed down at me, studying my features. I found myself squirming at the intrusive stare. “Why did you stop talking to me, Rowan?”

Shit.

I brushed past him and grabbed the handle of the shopping cart. I walked as fast as my legs could carry me, but Trent jogged after me.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” he reached out, bringing the cart to a halt. “You’re not getting away that easily. You don’t want to answer the question? Fine,” he shrugged like it was no big deal, “but I’m not going anywhere.”

“Of course you’re not,” I grumbled under my breath. Trent would stick around and fester under my skin. He’d find a way into my heart, and when he did I’d have to tell him all my secrets. And when he found out what I had done…he’d hate me, and I wouldn’t blame him.

“I’m a Wentworth,” he bumped me aside with his hip and took over with the shopping cart, “and we’re incredibly stubborn, so get used to it.”

“Believe me, I’m well acquainted with your stubbornness,” I grumbled under my breath.

Trent glanced at me over his shoulder, grinning like the cat that ate the canary. Uh-oh. What had I said? “I like that you’re admitting just how well you know me. This might not be as difficult as I thought.”

“What might not be difficult?” I ground my teeth together. I swear, only Trent seemed to know what buttons to push to piss me off.

“Getting you to see that we’re perfect for each other.”

Now Available: The End of Feeling by Cindy Bennett

I had the absolute pleasure of getting an early look at this book. And now I can finally share it with all of you. Trust me, this one is definitely worth the read. One of my favorites by Cindy Bennett and I LOVE all of her work!

Benjamin Nefer seems to have it all. He’s the most popular guy in school, the star quarterback with college scouts looking at him, his grades are near the top of his class, he can get any girl he wants . . . but he hides behind his dream life to mask the nightmare of his reality.
Charlie Austin is the new girl. Forced to move in with a bitter aunt, she only wants to protect her fragile mom from the world’s cruelty. When Benjamin sets his sights on Charlie, she’s armored against his charm—friends warned her about Benjamin’s game of pursuing and then dumping a long line of girls, not caring about the broken hearts he leaves behind. She doesn’t count on how single-minded he can be when she refuses him, or how charismatic, easing into her life through what he claims is just friendship.

Benjamin thought he could keep Charlie in the same place he keeps all girls—something to be used and then discarded. But Charlie has as many secrets as he does, secrets he’s determined to discover while keeping his own hidden. He realizes she’s the perfect girlfriend candidate . . . someone he can use to keep up the façade of a perfect life. Now he just has to keep his frozen heart from softening toward this unique girl, because if he doesn’t, his carefully constructed lies might just come thundering down around him, crushing him beneath the burden of feeling.

Here's what's being said about The End of Feeling:

The End of Feeling is a story that will stay with you long after you finish reading it. Haunting, heartbreaking, in other words, another winner for Bennett!
~ Sherry Gammon, author of Unlovable

From the moment I picked it up, my heart was warmed, melted, broken, and pieced back together  gain. A beautiful story that will leave you aching long after the last page.
~ Jamie Canosa, author of Falling to Pieces

tale of hope and love about a couple of teens who have every reason to believe in neither. It's raw and real, but leaves us believing in the power of redemption.
~ Juli Caldwell, author of Psyched

The reality both characters live makes their story captivatingly unique, and emotionally powerful. . . Demonstrates the beautiful truth that two people can learn to be true to themselves, no matter what—especially while falling in love.
~ Heather Frost, author of The Seers trilogy

The struggles in this story bring to light the fact that beauty and truly miraculous things can be found in the everyday, and that the most important thing any one of us can possess, is love.

Once again Cindy C Bennett's incredible talent shines through yet another masterpiece . . . a triumphant story of love, compassion and human strength.

Bennett brilliantly weaves the fears and trepidation of two teens treading the hazards of acceptance, young love, and. Curl up with this story and enjoy the ride—it's terrific.

Losing Me Blog Tour

Nickayla Quinn is not a damsel in distress.

Six months after she experienced a horrible betrayal at the hands of her best friend, her world is turned upside down. At the end of her rope, Nickayla can no longer go on... Determined to end it all, her plan is foiled when she’s pulled out of the darkness in a timely rescue in the form of Colin Westwick.

Colin never thought that saving the mysterious, drowning girl would be the end of his life as he knew it. Fueled by a desire to be around each other as much as possible, their walls come down and they let each other in, all the while battling demons that neither wants to share.

Nickayla’s not a weak girl who needs to be saved…she just needs to find the most important thing that she lost: herself.

REVIEW:

This isn’t the story of a boy who saves a girl. Though, Colin does rescue her when he dives into the ice cold water to keep Nickayla from drowning. It’s the story of a boy who loves a girl enough to give her the tools she needs to save herself. The strength she needs to rescue him, in return.

One night changed Nickayla’s whole life. One deep, dark secret she keeps buried that’s slowly eating her alive until she can’t take it anymore. Until she’s willing to do anything just to feel alive again. Even risk her life.

In steps Colin. He seems like the perfect guy, with the perfect life. Guess what? He’s not. Perfect doesn’t exist. Everyone has their own demons to battle. The question is, do you battle them alone or trust someone enough to face them together?

I was impressed by the strength of these characters. Their determination was inspiring. And their relationship, while quickly paced, was believable and heartwarming.

Another thing that really makes a book for me are the secondary characters. Sometimes I feel they’re even more important to the final product than the main characters. Memorable secondary characters can add a lot to a story, a new depth. This book has those, as well.

Besides both of their families, Nickayla has two best friends, Brody and Michele. Brody may be a bit . . . overprotective, but all I can say is everyone should have friends like them!

Losing Me is a fast paced book that will keep the pages turning. It’s a love story that will harden your heart and melt it all over again. A tale of fear and faith, sorrow and support, loss and love.

This is just the beginning of the Nickayla Quinn series and I look forward to seeing where Colin and Nickayla go from here. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy YA/NA contemporary romance, but caution that it does deal with some sensitive issues.

EXCERPT:

“Colin,” I said. “Babe, look at me.”
His eyes ceased the seemingly never-ending search and he finally met my gaze, opening his arms for me. I clambered into his lap, reveling in the feeling that his embrace was something of a safe haven for me. I closed my eyes, resting my hands upon his as they wrapped around me, resting in my lap.
“I’ll never leave you,” I said. “The only place that I want to be, the only place I’ll ever want to be is right here with you. No matter what happens, Colin, you’re endgame for me.”
            “Endgame?” he asked.
“Endgame,” I repeated, nodding. “It means no matter what, I plan on ending up with you. I say show me the ugly, show me the uncomfortable, because none of it will change the way I feel about you. I will be with you as long as you want me.”
I tilted my head back, eager to get a look at him and his reaction to what I’d just said. His eyes were peaceful, serene, something that I hadn’t really seen in him since the other night with his dad.
“I’m sorry, is it too soon?” I asked.
He shook his head frantically, leaning down and kissing me on the forehead.
“No, Nic, it’s not too soon at all,” he said. “It’s perfect.” He took a deep breath, releasing it slowly as his breath made a whistle of some sort. “So you want to hear all the ugly, huh?”
Was that what I wanted? Did I want to hear every deep, dark detail that was hidden in the depths of Colin’s soul? Maybe I didn’t. Maybe hearing about the things and people that hurt him would be the end of me. But maybe, just maybe, it would be the beginning of us.

“Yes,” I said. “Whatever it is that’s in your heart, I want to know about it. Take me there.”

Unbearable Cover Reveal!

I've had the pleasure of getting an early look at the gorgeous cover for Sherry Gammon's third book in the Port Fare series, Unbearable. And now . . . I get to share it with all of you!!!

Breathtaking Sale!

SEVEN best-selling novels of love and suspense
for only 99 cents!
Sale starts this Monday through March 29th!

Can't go wrong with that. Especially, when one of them is Unbelievable by Sherry Gammon. I haven't had the pleasure of reading the others yet, but I'll be grabbing my copy before this sake ends.

For now, here's my review of Unbelievable:

There were so many things to love about Unbelievable, I don't even know where to start. Oh, wait... yes I do. With the characters!

Lilah, oh Lilah! I love this girl. Okay, yes, she originally shows up in town with some not-so-nice plans for some of my favorite characters of all time, but that has all been forgiven. Where Maggie was a bit of a damsel in distress character in book one, Lilah was basically her polar opposite. Don't get me wrong, Maggie is without a doubt my favorite fictional character ever, but there's nothing bad about a lil kick-ass in a heroine, either. This girl has a whole host of her own issues to deal with, but she's not afraid to meet them head on and to do what needs to be done to protect the people she cares about.

And Cole. I must admit. I had my doubts about him pulling off the role of hero based on the first book, but he definitely steps up and fills the big-boy shoes in this one. He's an entirely different kind of hero than either Seth or Booker, but he's ever bit as endearing. I love Opie!

And then there are the others. I think possibly my favorite thing about this book is that, though it revolves around Lilah and Cole's story, it doesn't leave anyone out. All our favorites from the first book are back and better than ever. Seth, Maggie and Booker all have big roles in the story that keep you thoroughly invested in each of them. I can't even explain how excited I am for Booker's story!

Now, onto the story. It was one that cost me hours of sleep because I just couldn't put it down. The perfect combination of heart-warming, gut-busting, head-scratching, adrenaline-inducing story telling. Cole and Lilah's relationship started out slowly... very slowly, and very believably for the characters involved, but the action and intrigue kept the pages flowing nicely. By the time everything started to fall into place, I was so invested that stopping wasn't even an option until I knew how everything would turn out.

The Port Fare series is not to be missed by anyone who enjoys contemporary romance.
